In Their Own Words

"I joined the introductory course not knowing what to expect. By week three I was reading my provident fund statements with some confidence — something I had been putting off for years. The teaching assistant session at the end was genuinely useful: she looked at my actual documents and explained what I needed to address."

"I had several investment accounts that I had opened at different times and never properly reviewed together. The mid-life investment review gave me a framework for thinking about all of them as one picture. The three private consultation calls were particularly valuable — I could bring specific questions about my situation rather than working from hypothetical examples."

"The advanced programme was unlike anything I had encountered before. Having a financial advisor, an attorney, and a healthcare specialist in the same programme meant that the connections between different areas — which are always there in real life — were actually addressed directly. I completed the programme with a binder of organised materials that I still refer to."

"I was initially uncertain whether an online programme would work well for this kind of study. It did. The sessions were well-structured, the group was small enough that the teacher noticed when something was unclear, and the printed workbook meant I had something to refer to between sessions. I completed the introductory programme and then enrolled in the intermediate course the following quarter."

"I appreciated that the course did not tell me what to do. It helped me understand my situation well enough to make my own judgements — and to have better conversations with my financial advisor. The family communication session in the advanced programme was something I had not expected to find valuable, but it addressed a real gap I had not known how to handle."

"I had tried reading books and watching videos about personal finance and always found myself getting lost or losing interest. A structured course with a small group turned out to be what I needed. The instructor was patient and willing to slow down when the group needed it. Seven weeks was a manageable commitment around a full-time job."

Study Journeys in Detail

Case Study 01 · Introductory Programme

Starting Point

A retired teacher in Chiang Mai, 58, who had accumulated a provident fund, several insurance policies, and a savings account — but had never reviewed these together or estimated what she actually needed for retirement. She had been told she should consider investments but did not feel she understood enough to begin.

During the Course

She completed the introductory programme over seven weeks, working through her actual insurance policy documents in session and mapping her household expenses for the first time. The individual session with the teaching assistant helped her understand a coverage gap in her health insurance she had not previously noticed.

After Completion

She enrolled in the intermediate programme the following term. In a follow-up message three months later she wrote that she had addressed the insurance gap and established a monthly savings review process she had maintained since the course ended.

Case Study 02 · Intermediate Programme

Starting Point

A 52-year-old engineer in Bangkok with holdings in three separate brokerage accounts — two Thai, one overseas — that had accumulated over fifteen years without ever being reviewed as a coherent whole. He was not sure whether the portfolio was appropriate for someone in his position, or how to begin thinking about it.

During the Course

Over ten weeks he inventoried all three accounts using the portfolio review template, evaluated each holding against his current circumstances, and worked through case studies with the cohort that closely resembled his own situation. The first private consultation call focused entirely on his overseas account structure.

After Completion

He consolidated two of the three accounts, a step he felt comfortable taking because he understood the reasoning clearly. He used the forum access during the following year to ask follow-up questions as market conditions changed.

Case Study 03 · Advanced Programme

Starting Point

A 61-year-old business owner in Chiang Mai preparing to hand over operations to her children. She needed to understand the estate implications of her business ownership, the adequacy of her health coverage for the years ahead, and how to begin honest financial conversations with her adult children.

During the Course

The fifteen-week programme allowed her to work through each of these areas with the relevant faculty member. The three in-person gatherings in Chiang Mai gave her the opportunity to work through her personal financial binder in detail with direct faculty input at each stage.

After Completion

She engaged the inheritance attorney independently following the programme. In a message during the twelve-month advisory correspondence period, she noted that she had held the family financial conversation she had been avoiding for years — and that it had gone significantly better than she had expected.
